The study course provides an overview of professional communication in the field of ship mechanics. The study course provides an in-depth look at the ship mechanical topics and terms in English needed to understand manufacturers' technical manuals and specifications, as well as to communicate with shore-based technical personnel about the repair of the ship and its machinery.
As a result of the study course, students will be able to communicate successfully with ship and shore crew members on a variety of issues related to the professional activities of ship mechanics. As part of the study course, students will become familiar with the terminology of ship mechanics in English, building a comprehensive glossary of maritime and engineering technical terms.
The course of study shall comply with the specifications set out in Table A-III/2 of the STCW Convention, as amended from time to time, for minimum standards of competence for chief engineer officers and second engineer officers on ships with main propulsion power of 3000 kW or more.
