The study course provides students with in-depth knowledge of patents, design samples, trademarks, patent classification, patents’ legislation in Latvia, preparation and application of patents. The study course covers the analyses of patent claims in the fields of chemistry, chemical technology and materials science, legal aspects of patent law, interpretation of the most important requirements and technical methods for fulfilling these requirements in patent applications. Students are introduced to the economic role of patents, the possibilities of using post-registration, methods for determining the economic value of patents, as well as patent litigation.
