The study course has been developed in accordance with STCW Code Standards A-III/1, A-III/2, A-III/6 and A-VIII/2, as well as with the relevant IMO Model Courses "Chief Engineer Officer and Second Engineer Officer" No. 7.02 (2014 edition); "Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch" No. 7.04 (2014 edition); "Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch" No. "Electro-Technical Officer" No. 7.08 (2014 edition); "Leadership and Teamwork" No. 1.39 (2014 edition); "Use of leadership and managerial skills" No. 1.40 (2018 edition); "Engine-Room Simulator" No. 2.07 (2017 edition). recommendations and other relevant regulatory documents.
Although the requirements of Standards A-III/1, A-III/2 and A-III/6 differ, the programme is designed to ensure that ship engineers at operational and management level, including ship electrotechnical officers, acquire the knowledge and skill areas specified in all three Standards.
The study course of study provides trainees with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to minimize the likelihood of human error when working on board a ship. The training includes theoretical and practical sessions and focuses on the acquisition of humanitarian rather than technical knowledge and skills. The study course shall provide the trainee with an introduction to the standards of engine-room watchkeeping, the fundamentals of engine-room resource management, the principles of shipboard personnel management and training, relevant international maritime conventions and national legislation, task and workload management, effective resource management techniques, decision-making techniques, and the development and implementation of standard operating procedures.
