Ship Diesel Engines and Turbines(English)(1),24/25-R

The study course provides students with knowledge and skills in relation to the ship's diesel engines, steam and gas turbines and propulsion systems necessary for the student to operate the main power plant and auxiliary machinery, fuel, lubrication, ballast and other pumping systems in accordance with specified requirements, ensuring their continuity of operation and compliance with the ship's operational regime, as well as to manage the operation of the main power plant, auxiliary machinery and associated systems.
The design and components of the main diesel and auxiliary engines of ships are covered. Students will gain thorough understanding of the operation of these engines and their role in the propulsion systems of marine propulsion.
Through practical training and theoretical knowledge, they will acquire knowledge of correct machine design, start-up and shut-down procedures, performance monitoring and troubleshooting techniques.
An understanding of basic diesel engine theory is essential for aspiring marine engineers. Topics such as thermodynamics, combustion processes, engine cycles and emission control are covered, enabling students to understand the fundamental principles that govern the operation of diesel engines.
In addition to diesel engines, aspects of marine steam and gas turbine construction are covered. Students will study the principles of turbine operation, blade design, control mechanisms and their integration into marine propulsion systems.
Part-time extramural studies are organized according to an individually developed study plan.
