Pielāgošanās klimata pārmaiņām(English)(1),22/23-P

The study course provides knowledge of climate change, mitigation and adaptation strategies. The aim of the course is to develop the basics, criteria, processes and values that will help to cope with disaster risk management and improve resilience. The study course focuses on the resilience of infrastructures. The study course provides basic knowledge in disaster risk reduction and mitigation, promoting adaptation to climate change and improving the resilience of society and critical infrastructures. The first part of the study course is designed to teach understanding of the basic terms: risk, disaster, vulnerability, and disaster, including natural disasters and man-made disasters. This part explains the term disaster along with vulnerability, creating a link between cause of the disaster and consequences for society and critical infrastructures. The second part of the study course deals with the resilience of critical infrastructures. It explains how critical infrastructure works and how disruptions cause a cascade to fall on different infrastructures and on different scales. Strategies for building resilience to natural disasters and climate change. The study course offers students to deal with risk assessments and resilience calculations using qualitative and quantitative methods. The understanding of the proposed terms will be improved in special researches about network infrastructure systems. Both parts of the study course are designed to encourage the application of the acquired knowledge in practical research that will be conducted during the course. The study course offers knowledge at once in several specialized research areas, which include strategies on how to improve resilience, reduce vulnerability and increase adoption capacity. In this context, didactic activities provide an interdisciplinary perspective, to create a tool for scientists and professionals to ensure successful modeling of disaster resilience. The set of didactic activities offered in this way offers a practical approach for professionals and students who want to work with resilience research. The study course offers the very basics and guidelines for proper disaster resilience modeling.
The study course uses a competence-based teaching method - hackathon, in which students look for solutions aimed at adapting to climate change.
